We’re with you, Paris. If you’re in Nashville right now, then you know it’s two-showers-a-day weather right now. When Nashville hits triple digits, your AC unit works overtime and your energy bill notices. A few small adjustments can take real pressure off your system without sacrificing comfort.
- Close your blinds or curtains during peak sun hours, especially on west-facing windows. You’ll block a surprising amount of heat before it ever reaches your thermostat.
- Run ceiling fans counterclockwise in summer. The breeze makes a room feel several degrees cooler, so you can nudge your thermostat up a notch and still stay comfortable.
- Change your air filter if it’s been more than 90 days. A clogged filter forces your system to strain, which drives up costs and shortens its lifespan.
- Grill outside instead of using your oven on hot days. It keeps your kitchen from turning into a second heat source and your home stays cooler overall.
- Seal any gaps around windows and doors with weatherstripping. Older Nashville homes especially tend to lose cool air this way, and it’s an easy fix.
Stay cool out there, and if you’re thinking about how your home’s efficiency might affect its value this summer, I’m always happy to talk through it.
